October 3rd is fast approaching for the Delton Glebe Counselling Centre’s Annual Breakfast event, and if you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, there’s still time!
As always, the event will feature a delicious breakfast with all the fixings, lovingly prepared by the venerable Mrs. Bell. Her cooking is legendary and guaranteed to delight! After breakfast, we’ll take a moment to stroll through our We Care Auction display before moving to the Sanctuary for our keynote presentation.
This year, we are thrilled to introduce Cheryl Vanderveen, A.R.C.T., BSE, MSW, RSW as our keynote speaker. Cheryl will present on the timely topic:
“Changing the Narrative, Start a Conversation: Considerations for Silent Strokes and the Suicide Risk Assessment Inventory.”
This discussion is critical and relevant for all. In cases of stroke—or other acquired brain injuries—cognitive/emotional/behavioral and personality functions, especially executive functions, can be severely impacted. This compromises decision-making abilities, impulse control, and self-regulation, which can lead to an increased risk of suicidality, demanding a specialized approach to risk assessment and management. With an aging population, growing awareness of brain injuries, and recent findings that people as young as their 30s may experience “silent strokes,” Cheryl will guide us on what to look for, how to seek support, and how to move forward. Her personal story, combined with her professional expertise, makes for an engaging, educational, and highly relevant presentation.
To purchase your tickets, please visit our website at https://glebecounselling.ca/breakfast/. Doors open at 7:00 AM, breakfast begins at 7:30 AM, and our keynote presentation starts at 8:00 AM, so you can start your day with us and still get to work on time. Our We Care Auction is also live on Facebook and has some fabulous items up for bid. Check it out – bidding closes at 12 pm sharp on October 3rd.

Additionally, please consider attending our Clinical Workshop later the same day (11:00 AM to 1:00 PM), where Cheryl will dive deeper into the clinical aspects of stroke education, brain injuries, and suicide risk assessment. She will look at the cognitive, behavioral, emotional and personality changes that may be impacted and effects on thinking, problem solving, anger, depression, emotional regulation, irritability. This session offers 2 continuing education credits and can be attended in person or online. If you attend the breakfast as well, you’ll save $20 on your workshop registration!
Feel free to download the attached flyers for both events. If you have any questions, please call us at 226-898-4016 or email us.
We hope to see you there!
