Church in Mission with others

Church in Mission with others

Submitted and Written by Rev. Hilmar Lorenz - Gatineau, Quebec   (Editorial for The Eastern Synod Paper)

The Eastern Synod Lutheran is an excellent example for what its church wants to be: in mission for others. Grouped around the “Bishop’s Journal, “ articles are published that report about events in the “congregational life around the synod“ and other activities that show the ELCIC in mission for others.

Out of the Cold Volunteers Needed

Out of the Cold is an outreach ministry that provides food, fellowship and shelter to the homeless and less fortunate during the winter months in our community.  There are 9 churches involved in this program, with each church running their program on a specific night of  the week.  The Out Of The Cold outreach ministry has been in operation since 1999.

A Blessed Experience

Ralph Weigold began an internship at Trinity Village in September of 2010 as part of his Master of Divinity degree program at Waterloo Lutheran Seminary - an affiliate college on the Wilfrid Laurier University campus. He is completing his work at Trinity to move on to a parish, now that he has graduated from the program.

Bishop Susan Thanks the Eastern Synod

Dear Bishop Michael and all members of the Eastern Synod,

I’m writing to thank you for your extraordinary generosity in responding to Bishop Michael’s challenge and surpassing the goal of $100,000.00 for the ELCIC Praise Appeal. I’m sending along a picture of Gloria McNabb, ELCIC Director of Finance and Administration, and myself happily holding a cheque from the Eastern Synod for $118,420.70!

Lutheran - Mennonite Co-Operation in Action

When Pastor Melvin Janke (St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, East Zorra) and Pastor Vernon Zehr (Cassel Mennonite Church) forged their friendship in the 1970’s they probably did not anticipate the longevity of their actions into the next century.  With regard to the process of study and reconciliation between Lutherans and Mennonites, this has seemed for decades to be a non issue for these two rural congregations near Tavistock, Ontario.
