ELCIC Women of Faith Fund

ELCIC Women of Faith Fund

The ELCIC Women of Faith Fund provides annual grants that encourage and facilitate the Christ- centred ministry of women within the ELCIC and In Mission for Others.

This fund was established in 2011 in recognition of the “significant contribution of the women of the Evangelical Lutheran Women (ELW) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC)”. The fund came from the monies remaining after the dissolution of the ELW. Individuals or groups may make additional donations to the fund.

Re-Connecting with Lutherans Connect

Bishop Pryse, along with the rest of us here at synod office, recently had a chance to re-connect with Sherry Coman, creator and curator of the daily devotionals we experience through Lutherans Connect.

Sherry was Lutheran Campus Ministry Toronto Co-ordinator from2008-2012 when the devotionals project came to be. She once told us that the devotional projects grew out of prayer vigil projects on the U of T, St. George campus. “It was a very rich time for me, and I benefited spiritually immeasurably form my exposure to other faith communities.”

Thank You Oscar

The ‘Lord is My Light’ is the inspirational solo selected and offered by Oscar Zarnke on the occasion of his retirement from St. John’s Lutheran Church (Waterloo) Choir duties at age 98. Oscar’s commitment and dedication to the choir covers 84 years, having started as a boy soprano when he was 14 years old. His career has seen over two dozen Pastors, approximately twelve organists and two church edifices while belonging to ONE congregation. Over the decades he has attended over 4000 choir rehearsals and untold number of worship services.

World Interfaith Harmony Week - February 1-7, 2018

From February 1-7, 2018, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) will observe World Interfaith Harmony Week. The ELCIC will join with others around the world in this week of reflection and public witness on what it means to be people of faith, regardless of religious affiliation. Being in dialogue with people of other faith traditions enriches our own mission and ministry, and helps us create a climate where we can work together for peace and justice.

A Little New Year Risk Taking

I’m sure the vast host of parenting experts would have much to say about my decision to put my tiny, three year old daughter on a 30 year old wooden toboggan and give her a good push down a short but rather steep hill - a hill that emptied out onto a road. Yes, I’m sure the parenting experts would have much to say about that!
