A little about the role:
This is a part time position reporting directly to the Lead Pastor
Up to 15 hours per week with remuneration to be commensurate with the applicant’s training and experience
Timesheets submitted weekly, with allowance for extra hours for multi-day events such as
Confirmation Camp, Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth gathering (CLAY), etc.
Here’s what you’ll need to have:
A passion for engaging youth in learning and having fun while doing so!
Experience working with children & youth
Experience with worship and theology in a Lutheran context (or similar denomination)
Experience leading worship and or small group devotions
Familiarity with online video chat tools and social media platforms
Experience coordinating youth trips or camps
A commitment to equity and inclusion
A clear criminal record check (vulnerable sector)
And here’s what you’ll be doing:
Engaging children and youth through fun, relevant activities, including participation in Sunday worship
Taking a lead role in faith formation and mentorship for youth and children. This may include assisting with Confirmation classes and events.
Working with, coordinating and equipping volunteers
Working collaboratively with youth and families to identify and develop programs that meet the needs of families and that encourage their active participation in the life and mission of the congregation
Working with the Lead Pastor and Office Administrator to develop communication strategies, including the use of technology, informing youth and families in the broader community of upcoming activities
Coordinating and providing leadership at intergenerational worship and events from time to time
Organizing and chaperoning youth trips and events such as traveling to CLAY or confirmation camp. (Extra hours will be paid for these events.)
Providing leadership and coordinating volunteers to offer a Sunday School program.
While under pandemic conditions, this role will have a greater emphasis on distance (online) events such as online worship, digital Sunday school, or digital youth night. In addition, during the pandemic this role will focus on accompanying and supporting families and youth who may be struggling with mental health, isolation and/or uncertainty about the future.
