The State of Jewish-Christian Relations Today

Speaker: Victor C. Goldbloom

Victor C. Goldbloom was born and educated in Montreal.  He graduated from McGill University in 1945 and became a paediatrician.  In 1966 he was elected to the Quebec legislature.  Re-elected in 1970, he became Quebec's first Minister of the Environment, and later Minister of Municipal Affairs as well.

In the fall of 1979 he resigned his seat to become head of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews.  From 1982 to 1990 he was president of the International Council of Christians and Jews.  From 1991 to 1999 he was Canada's fourth Commissioner of Official Languages.  He has served for over thirty years on the Canadian Christian-Jewish Consultation and the Christian-Jewish Dialogue of Montreal.

Victor Goldbloom holds honorary degrees from Toronto, McGill, Concordia, Ottawa and Saint Anne's Universities.  In 2012 he was named by Pope Benedict XVI to the Order of Saint Sylvester.
