We are a bilingual, German and English speaking congregation in Toronto's west end. We were originally founded by immigrants from German speaking parts of Europe, mostly Germany. Our congregation is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and is also affiliated to the Protestant Church in Germany (EKD). For three generations we have served a geographically diverse congregation. For more than 30 years we have maintained a local Day Care Centre providing quality care and education based on our Christian values. WE BELIEVE in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is key to all services, work and fellowship of our congregation. We are deeply rooted in the belief that faith and God sustains our existence as a congregation. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3, 16) is a summary of our understanding of the Christian belief and describes the origin and purpose of our existence as a congregation. We believe it is our responsibility to communicate this message to as many people as possible. We acknowledge that the Bible is God's Word, which reveals to us God the Father as the Creator and Preserver, the Son, Jesus Christ, as Redeemer and Lord, and the Holy Spirit, as Regenerator and Sanctifier. The bible gives us guidance in all questions regarding our human existence and is the authoritative standard for the faith and the life of the Church. We subscribe to the Lutheran tradition, based on the German Reformer Martin Luther. We confess that it is necessary to ask God for forgiveness, which offers the opportunity for a fresh start. Jesus died for our sins, and His resurrection makes us certain that we will inherit Eternal Life. We are aware that everything we accomplish in our church is absolutely dependent on God. He plans for us, blesses our work and gives us specific tasks to fulfill. In all we do, we work through him, with him and for him. WE PROVIDE a Sunday Service, which is the priority of our work. According to scripture (Acts 2), it is crucial that, as Christians, we gather as a congregation in the name of the triune God. This offers us the opportunity to grow in our faith and live in a community of believers according to God's commandments. We usually have two services each Sunday, one in English and one in German. Both have a plain liturgy and clear sermons based on the Lutheran order of readings (biblical texts). We celebrate Holy Communion monthly. By request, we hold baptisms of children and adults. Sunday School is part of this gathering on Sunday mornings. Children celebrate with us at the beginning of the Service (Children's talk), and afterwards attend their own, age-appropriate teaching (drama, singing and crafts). There are many other activities in our church, which provide fellowship among members and newcomers which enhance relationships and build a strong community.
