YAYA Committee Members

From the Northern Conference

Hello, my name is Anna and I am 15 years old. This is my first year with YAYA. I have been part of Christian youth groups before and have enjoyed them thoroughly. I thought this would be a fun thing to do. Both of my parents are pastors and are very solid in their faith. I am not, I guess I’m still finding out exactly what I believe in. I think this will be a great way to try and strengthen my believes and gain some more cool experiences. I am really looking forward to being part of YAYA.
For those of you who wonder why I do what I do, this is why.

From the Atlantic Conference

Hi, I’m Catherine. This is my first year being a part of YAYA and I am very excited to be representing the East Coast. Being involved with my church has always been important to me so I can grow in faith and to be involved with such a great community. I believe that being a part of YAYA will help me learn more about the greater church as well as to actively be a part of it. I am hoping to be able to share my experiences with other youth at my church and at Lutheran Camp Mush (where I work) so that they can also learn about the ELCIC and feel motivated to get involved with their church as well.

For those of you who wonder why I do what I do, this is why.

From the Ottawa-St Lawrence Conterence

Hi, I’m Sophie.  I like the church community because the people you meet change who you are.  I’m sixteen and I’m trying to figure it out and I’m meeting people, including those in my church, and they are helping me figure out what I believe and why I go to church.  Everybody comes for a different reason.  You see all these people committed to helping others and the world around them.  It is inspiring.  And I want to be a part of that inspiration.

For those of you who wonder why I do what I do, this is why.

From the Kitchener-Waterloo Conference

Hi my name is Vicky!  As a youth/young adult, I know the pressures that influence our youth in the world today.  I think that the main influence should be a loving, exciting, God-filled community, but unfortunately it is not.  The youth and young adults of today need the support from a faith community that knows their needs and lifestyles.  Being a counselor at Camp Edgewood, I have found my love of sharing my faith with others and helping them nurture theirs.  I am excited about being part of YAYA as the next step in inspiring and energizing the youth, young adults of today’s church!

From the Ottawa-St Lawrence Conference

Hi, my name is John and I believe in the importance of youth ministry. Some of my fondest high school memories are from youth events and I wish that more people could be similarly blessed. Through the church, we become members of a community and can more easily reach out to the communities in which we live. We also become more aware of issues troubling the world and of our role in the global community. As youth and as members of the Church, these are our responsibilities.

For those of you who wonder why I do what I do, this is why.

From the Kitchener-Waterloo Conference

Hi, my name is Sara.  I joined YAYA because it gave me the chance to show the church that the young people are taking an intreset it what is going on. We also want to see our church change for the better and sometimes the only way to do that is to show them how we see it. I can be a very out spoken person but only if it is for something I believe is going in a direction that will help our church grow. For those of you who wonder why I do what I do, this is why.

From the London Conference

Hi, I’m Jackie. I’ve been a part of YAYA for a few years, and I’ve stayed on so long because it has given me the opportunity to connect with the greater ELCIC community. Before I joined YAYA my concept of our community was very limited, church was a once-a-week thing with some youth group events and a biannual trip to CLYG (now CLAY). Through YAYA I was given the chance to be more intimately involved with the issues our church faces, and to see how our assemblies work and to vote in them (I admit to being one of those odd sorts who enjoys the administrative process), and it has been an invaluable experience. For me YAYA is about being an active member in the ELCIC, not a passerby. For those of you who wonder why I do what I do, this is why.

From the Toronto Conference

Hi, my name is Ben.  I believe that as youth in today’s world, it is our responsibility to help and support our communities, our nation, and our planet. It is our job to be examples in the world, and to lead our church into the future, sharing our own ideas and experiences of God. I do what I do because I’m not afraid to be a part of a progressive future with a loving community in faith. For those of you who wonder why I do what I do, this is why.
