A month into my reflecting on this document I'm feeling a little more anxious and a little less hopeful. Where do rostered persons fit in our system if they are not located in the leadership of a congregation. I see how the Synod and Congregation will move and manage rostered leaders but I don't really see where they get voice apart from the voice they are to speak on behalf of their congregation nor where they belong.

Will keep thinking and praying.

I am pleased that this document is being developed and that it is taking the form of a covenant which is based on relationship. I can see the need for clarity by focusing on the relationship between congregation and synod. However, as someone whose ministry has been primarily in hospitals, I am concerned that by not reflecting on non-congregational ministies it becomes easier to reduce the focus of our church to congregational settings only. I see that institutional ministry is an extension of the ministry of the people of God into settings where people are often under distress and feel isolated from their usual emotional and physical supports. Several denominations have recently reduced their support of institutional ministries.

I appreciate this work very much..

I am trying to get in touch with my thoughts, my feelings and the interplay between the two before responding. This posting (including the Bishop's "About" and the draft document) leave me hopeful, anxious and intrigued - for starters.

Wherever the thoughts and feelings are taking me - overall I feel welcome and included. Thanks for that. More to follow.
