St Mark's Lutheran Church

We are a worshipping church that is open, inclusive, intergenerational, committed to teaching and learning, a church of diverse services, ministries and challenges. Our communion welcome is "Come to the table where everyone is welcome; the gifts of God for the people of God." We seek to stir up the gifts for ministry in each member young and old which means that children, youth and young adults often take a leadership role in worship. We offer a Sunday School for all ages including a variety of Adult Education discussions that range from Bible Study to conversations about the Church Year to grappling with controversial social and faith issues. Monday mornings we have a lively Daily Discipleship group which reflects on the Gospel reading for the following Sunday. Our Sunday School programme for children is called B.L.A.S.T. (Bible Learning Adventure Stations). This imaginative programme is based on the rotational model of learning. Children, their shepherds and leaders rotate among classes in Bible stories, art, cooking and computers. Our music programme includes a Senior Choir, a Worship Band, Junior and Senior Bell Choirs and special concerts. Through Stephen Ministry we offer one-to-one, trained, supervised, distinctively Christian caring to those who are dealing with change and/or loss. We have a long history of opening our doors to groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, Scouts and various other community groups. In recent years, Meheret Evangelical Church (a congregation made up of Ethiopian and Eritrean immigrants) and the Cherry Park Neighbourhood Association have found a home at St. Mark's. In response to Christ's love for us, together with Calvary Memorial United Church and the Eastern Synod of the ELCIC, we sponsor a Community Ministry to nurture a sense of healthy community in our neighbourhood and the larger K-W community. We offer a mid-week supper at 5:45 p.m. each Wednesday that brings together church and community. Our Community Ministry has published the book "See You Next Week: An Ecumenical Community Mnistry in an Ontario Downtown". This book is available for $12.00 from communitymin@yahoo.ca Our congregation and our Community Ministry are increasingly involved ing giving pastoral care and support to both staff and students at the high school next door and serve breakfast to students five mornings a week.
